We should have build some trial/purchase metrics collecting capability into our apps. Would have been pretty easy to do if cert. allows it.

I would agree but then that means you would be running at a cost. There would have to be some server that allows you to collect that data which not all of us could afford.

    FYI, this blog post:

    States:

"Shortly after new Windows Phones become broadly available, Marketplace will begin providing developers with individual insights on their app’s performance within Marketplace. The reporting will soon become more automated and self service. "

Provide developers with individual insights sounds like they are going to tell top sellers what they sold.  Which sounds like XBLA Titles and Top Tier apps.

It occurred to me that maybe this is a political decision and not a technical issue. If MS did give developers access to # of downloads and sales, and they were very low, then this would give ammunition to competing camps, and perhaps slow developer adoption of the platform.

I have been thinking along those same lines. The early app sales data may be being temporarily suppressed until the phones have been out for a while. I just hope we can get some kind of reporting in November and it isn't going to be December before we have access to some real data.

Guys, I don't know how many of you had the marketplace experience last year, but in short, just relax. They will give us the counter, sooner or later. Things go way better than they did 1 year ago. Just say thanks that we do not have to cope with writing dlls in order to setup correct shortcuts for our apps...

I would be willing to write a few DLLs if I could get access to the download and sales statistics for my apps... LOL

When XBox Indie games first came out we never had stats until 3 months after the release, lets hope we wont have to wait as long again.

I remember. I hope to see the data soon, waiting again for months would be too much for my poor hearth.

January???  Interesting.  I guess it's time to see how the Silverlight Analytics works.

In either SilverLight we can access a web service.   It is probably important not to track the customer, but you do want to track your app without tracking the customer.   It seems a GUID and a boolean for is trail or purchaced could be used with a web service to count.

Re: Getting information on number of downloads an purchases?

Yesterday, right before I saw this MS statement here, I implemented paid tracking using the Silverlight Analytics Framework and Google Analytics event tracking. I use the DeviceUniqueId for this. Seems to work fine for my tests yesterday. :)
If anyone is interested I will put the info in a blog post.

That would be great! Thanks for offering. Has your app re-passed certification with that code in place?

Seems like it's the day of the WP7 analytics announcements. ;)

My solution uses the open source Silverlight Analytics Framework and Google Analytics. It's also free and not only free for a limited time period. :)
You can read my blog post here.

Here is a nice comparison of the analytics being offered by Microsoft and the Silverlight analytics framework by its author at Microsoft in his blog http://blogs.msdn.com/b/synergist/archive/2010/11/02/dotfuscator-for-windows-phone-released.aspx
